FlexReg Mine Ventilation Regulator

MINE VENTILATION REGULATORS

Adjustable airflow control for underground mining

FlexReg is an Australian made adjustable mine ventilation regulator, commonly referred to underground as a Nixon flap or ventilation control blind.

Designed for practical site use, FlexReg provides a reusable way to regulate airflow without constructing a permanent ventilation control. The opening can be adjusted as ventilation requirements change, and the system can be removed or relocated as the mine develops.

FlexReg forms part of PolyFusion’s broader underground ventilation control capability.

NIXON FLAP / VENTILATION CONTROL BLIND

Familiar underground concept, locally manufactured

In underground mining, adjustable flexible regulators are often referred to as Nixon flaps or ventilation control blinds. FlexReg is PolyFusion’s locally manufactured product for this type of airflow control.

The aim is simple: provide a practical restriction point that can be adjusted when required, rather than rebuilding a fixed regulator every time ventilation priorities change.

HOW FLEXREG WORKS

Raise or lower the regulator to change the opening

FlexReg uses a flexible reinforced curtain supported by horizontal ribs across the drive. A rope and pulley arrangement allows the regulator to be raised or lowered, changing the open area and therefore the airflow restriction.

The system is designed around adjustment, relocation and reuse. Components can be transported underground, installed using conventional suspension points and serviced or repaired when required.

ADJUSTMENT SYSTEM

Simple mechanical control, easy to understand underground

The lifting arrangement uses ropes and pulleys connected to the regulator so the opening can be adjusted without dismantling the system.

This gives site teams a straightforward way to change the restriction as operating conditions change. The mechanical components are also accessible for inspection, replacement and maintenance.

HANGING KIT

Supplied as a practical installation system

FlexReg can be supplied with the hardware required to suspend and operate the regulator, including ropes, chains, pulleys and a manual winch arrangement.

The setup can be configured around the drive dimensions and site requirements, with optional personnel access and additional support components available where required.

Common applications

  • Adjustable underground mine ventilation regulation
  • Temporary or semi-permanent airflow control
  • Fresh and return airway regulation
  • Development areas where ventilation requirements change over time
  • Locations where a reusable alternative to a constructed regulator is preferred

BUILT FOR REAL SITE CONDITIONS

Australian manufactured, serviceable and repairable

FlexReg systems are manufactured by PolyFusion in Western Australia. Local manufacture means the system can be configured for site requirements and supported with repairs, modifications and replacement components when needed.

For applications requiring inflatable isolation or rapid sealing rather than adjustable regulation, see our Inflatable Ventilation Control (IVC) systems.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FlexReg and Nixon flap questions

What is a Nixon flap?

Nixon flap is a commonly used mining term for an adjustable flexible ventilation regulator or ventilation control blind used to restrict and manage airflow underground.

Can FlexReg be adjusted after installation?

Yes. The regulator is designed to be raised or lowered so the open area can be changed as ventilation requirements change.

Can FlexReg be reused?

Yes. FlexReg is designed as a reusable ventilation control and can be removed, relocated and serviced as site requirements change.

Can personnel access be incorporated?

Yes. Personnel access can be incorporated where the application requires routine passage through the regulator.

Is FlexReg made in Australia?

Yes. FlexReg is manufactured by PolyFusion in Western Australia.
